IKAE: The Everyday
Wonderful

Director / Videographer / Producer

As part of my work with the Exeter Northcott Theatre, I work extensively with the Northcott Young Company (NYC) and Northcott Young Creatives. This piece was one that was created alongside guest artists Le Navet Bete in 2021. The group worked with Matt and Nick from Le Navet Bete for two terms to create a performance piece that was shown at that year’s Exeter Fringe Festival.

The piece followed staff and customers on their journey around a Swedish flat-pack furniture store, IKAE. With humour and joy at the heart of the piece, and a healthy dose of drama and miscommunication, just to spice it up.

For my part in the piece, I created the trailer and graphic design for the show, as well as co-directing the piece. The inspiration for the trailer was to go for a sit-com style cinematography, hand-held with lots of zooming in and out for emphasis and to capture expressions. We only had a limited 2 hours to film the trailer, and less than 1 day to prep for it. So, it is not perfect, but I think it captures the style and tone of the piece in the best possible way.
